Description/Job Summary

Assists in planning and designing manufacturing processes and equipment in a manufacturing plant. Resolves technical problems and may recommend improvements to production methods, determine manufacturing capacity, and set up production schedules. Assists with the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation in support of manufacturing operations such as machining, metal forming, welding, assembly, and material handling. Supports ITW Toolbox projects including In-Lining, MRD, PLS and 80/20 evaluations.


  • Follow all safety and housekeeping rules.
  • Actively participate in Safety Program.
  • Investigate various types of new machines and equipment as to versatility and diversification of production features required, prices and other conditions.
  • Prepare reports and make recommendations for management relative to purchase or lease decisions.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as tooling, manufacturing, and purchasing, whose services are necessary to conclude assignments. 
  • Observe and analyze applied methods and offer recommendations in the area of improvements to bring about work simplification and cost reduction.
  • Investigate advanced methodology and production techniques, to analyze and program NC machine and to organize, document and establish standard method references, records and files.
  • Coordinate and implement approved plans. 
  • Advise and assist maintenance team assigned to projects, as to procedures and engineering requirements.
  • Coordinate the activities in developing manufacturing methodology relative to operation methods, process, work measurement, tooling material routing, preparation of estimates and other technical phases involved.
  • Work from part and product drawings, manufacturing schedules and various documents required to conclude assignments.
  • Review workplace layouts and assist in developing plant layouts.
  • Assist in machine justification studies, cost reduction proposals, machine load and capacity studies and improvements to existing procedures.
  • Work with finance personnel in reviewing and monitoring labor reporting.
  • Prepare and review manufacturing process sheets on new or existing parts or products.
  • Assist and provide information used for formal cost estimates on new and changed parts (products).
  • Achieve expert status in ITW Toolbox; responsible for training all manufacturing employees in Toolbox and maintaining all training records.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing processes, including all documentation to support both internal/external (OSV) processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects towards cost reductions, increases in productivity, and quality improvements.
  • Guide all manufacturing initiatives, working with Gaylord staff and plant level management on lean implementation using 80/20 Toolbox. 
  • Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing Supervisors in troubleshooting manufacturing equipment, tooling and processes.

Required Skills

Required Experience

  • 2+ years manufacturing engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • 2+ years lean manufacturing experience; including, Just in Time, Demand Flow, Five S, Visual Management, Continuous Improvement Process, and Kaizen

Required Education

BS in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical or Technology Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to create and maintain plant layouts, product specifications, production SOP’s, and QA documentation. 
  • Basic understanding of financial measurements and goals in a Lean enterprise. 
  • Project Management experience (managing both productivity & facilities projects)
